Slice of Life: Dear Teachers ... #SOL19

Dear Teachers,

That class.  You know that class.  The one you never thought would gel.  The one who kept you up at night and exhausted you throughout the day.

That class.  You know that class.  The one that every teacher in the older grades heard about and awaited receiving with anticipation.  The one who had so much energy it was impossible to contain.

That class.  You know that class.  The one that engaged your heart even though it was a struggle to lead them.  The one you will always remember.

That class.  You know that class.  The one you wondered if they would ever become a community.  The one you worried might not find their way.

That class.  You know that class.

You need to know every second, minute,  hour and year you taught them paid off.

You need to know they figured out how to channel their energy to inspire, to connect, and to honor.

You need to know they learned how to lead from your example and that they will always remember you.

You need to know they listened more than you think and felt more deeply than you imagine.

You need to know when the unthinkable happened they came together.  They sought each other out.

You need to know they mourned together with laughter and tears.

You need to know they supported each other.

You need to know they feel the impact of loss within their community.

You need to know they understand every community member matters and will never be forgotten.

That class.  You know that class.

Together they are finding their way, trying to find perspective when they are years beyond having any, and leaning on one another.

Teachers only have one year with each class.  You don’t get to see the culmination of a class’s educational journey.  You don’t get to see who they become as individuals or as a community.

Please know, you make a difference.  Please know, you are with them.  Please know, you prepare them to be the community they will need when they need it most.

That class.  You know that class.

                                             Sincerely,

Every Parent, Caretaker, and Student You Have Ever Taught
